How to tell the differnce between Left and Right

Torsion Springs

The difference between left and right hand springs

Torsion springs can be coiled or wound in two directions. This results in two types of torsion spring, left hand or right hand.

The simplest way to determine this is to think about which way you charge the spring in order to put tension or potential energy into it.

Clockwise tension is required on the right hand spring and anticlockwise is required on the left hand spring as shown in the picture to the left.
